John Burnside & Romesh Gunesekera:
The Jura Single Malt Whisky Event

Edinburgh International Book Festival
Wednesday 13 August at 7.00pm

George Orwell wrote 1984 hidden away on the Isle of Jura. Scottish poet and fiction writer John Burnside and Sri-Lanka-born novelist Romesh Gunesekera are following on his footsteps thanks to Scottish Book Trust’s Jura Malt Whisky Writer’s Retreat. Romesh had just come back from a whole month on the island while John was just about to travel there. They discussed the importance of islands and isolation in their writing and shared their experiences and expectations of spending time alone on one of Scotland’s most beautiful islands, with the local whisky distillery as your closest neighbour!
