Cornelia Funke Event at the GFT

We were delighted when we heard that Cornelia Funke was coming over to Scotland from her home in LA to promote the final installment in the INK trilogy, Inkdeath. We were even more thrilled when we found out we were organising her only Scottish events.

We packed the art-deco GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre) with almost 400 children from Glasgow, the surrounding area and from as far away as Peebles.

Cornelia read from an extract of Inkheart, we were then treated to an exclusive showing of the Inkheart movie trailer which she has helped to produce (the film will hit Cinemas on 12 December 2008) and then she answered questions from the children.

Cornelia Funke has sold millions of novels in the UK, Germany (her home-land), the USA and all over the world. She is sometimes described in the UK as the German JK Rowling but in Germany JK Rowling is described as the Scottish Cornelia Funke!

Pupil Comments

We had to leave really early in the morning to got to Glasgow. I was really excited, I've read Inkheart and Inkspell and I was a big fan. We were a little bit late but we heard people asking some really good questions and it was interesting. Then I went down to the bottom and bought the last in the trilogy, INKDEATH. It was hard to try to even get to the front desk because we were surrounded by children - it's nice to know Cornelia Funke is really popular with their age as well as ours. I got all three of my books signed and I got my picture taken with her. It was a great day out!

I really enjoyed the event! The thing I liked the most was seeing a clip of movie. I also liked hearing the passage from Inkheart. I wish it would be a little bit longer and we heard a bit more of the passage from Inkheart. One last thing I liked was the book signing because I have never got something signed. Overall I enjoyed the whole thing and I would like to see it again! She Inspired me!

I went to see Cornelia Funke today. I really enjoyed it. The best thing about it was the book signing because soon she could be very famous and I'll have her signature. The bad thing about it was the noise from the workers outside because it was affecting the reading. Cornelia Funke has been my favourite author for three years and it was so exciting and delightful to meet her.

When we went to Cornelia Funke I was quite excited. We went into the room and could buy books if we wanted. I got The Thief Lord. She told us about her books and we asked questions. After that we saw the film trailer. It was amazing and I am going to see it when it comes out. When the event finished Cornelia signed our books. I had a great time and would definitely go see her again.

On Tuesday the 30th of September I went to Glasgow Film Theatre to the book launch of Cornelia Funke! The first chapter of Inkheart was amazing to listen to. Cornelia is so talented to be able to amuse children with her amazing books. The trailer of Inkheart looks so good. I can't wait to see it. In class we are doing a project on Cornelia Funke. She is just so inspiring and have saw her in person is just amazing.

Then I watched the trailer for Inkheart the movie and I'm defiantly going to see it in December. it was a good opportunity to buy books but sadly I didn't' have any money. Meeting Cornelia Funke was an amazing experience. I was over the moon when I was told that I was going to meet her. Before we went I read one of her books, Inkheart. I thought it was amazing. It is now one of my favourite books, and Cornelia Funke is now one of my favourite authors. I am really looking forward to see her new film that is coming out of the 12th of December.

A poem about Cornelia Funke

There was once was an author named Cornelia Funke,
She illustrated boring books all day.
She had to illustrate books about playgrounds and schools,
But she wanted to illustrate dragons and ghouls.
She soon got her wish, yes this is true,
But not only does she draw dragons, she writes about them too!
Cornelia Funke's books are really, really good,
If you're bored and you read one you'll surely be in a good mood.
So next time you're in a book shop and you see Cornelia Funke's book,
Be sure to pick it up and have a good look!
